Kolkata Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the ₹2.66 crore robbery that took place on May 5 on CIT Road near Park Circus. According to police, the accused forcibly entered a taxi and looted the cash. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanjib Das alias Pocha, Mohammad Sarfaraz alias Sonu, Riju Hazra, Shahrukh SK, and Alamgir Khan. They were apprehended from different locations following investigation and tracking.
Officials said that based on the statement of Sanjib Das, ₹26 lakh in cash was recovered from the house of his friend Shailen. Additionally, based on the statement of accused Alamgir Khan, ₹3 lakh was recovered from his residence at 107, Topsia Road, Tiljala. Both amounts have been seized by police. The total recovery so far stands at ₹29 lakh. All accused are currently in police custody for further interrogation.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the remaining unaccounted amount. The robbery involved the looting of ₹2.66 crore in cash that was being transported in a taxi on CIT Road. Police have not disclosed further details on the origin or purpose of the cash, and no official statement has been released on the motive behind the crime.
